Surrealism

In this post I will be finding out about Surrealism and what exactly it is. Apart form the fact that it's an art movement there's not much else I already know about it.

So what is Surrealism? Basically, Surrealism is the art movement that reveals what the unconscious mind is seeing and re-creates it with rational life.

("The Persistence of Memory" by  Salvador DalĂ, 1931. Google images)

This is one of Dali's most well known artworks. The creature in the middle can be recognized as a human figure and the way it almost seems to 'fade' into the background is like that of how when someone dreams of a person or creature but can't quite see or pinpoint it. Also, it looks like it has an eye close, making it look like it's dreaming, which again leads back to how Surrealism is about what the unconscious mind sees through dreams.
